Why You Should Bring Your Dog to Your Mini Session

As a photographer, I get asked this question a lot:
“Can we bring our dog to the mini session?”

My answer?
Absolutely. Please do.

If your dog is part of your family—and let’s be honest, they totally are—then they belong in your photos too. Whether they’re a new puppy with floppy ears or a senior dog who’s been by your side for years, bringing them along adds so much heart and personality to your session. Here’s why:

1. They’re Part of Your Story

Dogs aren't just pets—they're companions, emotional support systems, adventure buddies, and very often, the heartbeat of the home. Including them in your mini session means you're capturing your whole family, not just the two-legged members.

2. Candid Moments Happen Naturally

One of the best things about having your pup along? They help you relax! Dogs are great at breaking the ice, making you laugh, and pulling everyone into the moment. The unposed, joy-filled photos that happen when you’re tossing a stick or getting face kisses? Priceless.

3. Photos You’ll Treasure Forever

We all wish our dogs could stay forever, but their time with us is precious—and sometimes short. Including them in professional photos ensures you’ll have beautiful memories to look back on. Those images often become some of the most meaningful ones over the years.

4. They Make the Session More You

Your dog is part of your everyday life. Whether they’re playful and wild or calm and snuggly, their energy adds something real and personal to the session. It’s your story—with a wagging tail in the middle of it.

Tips for Bringing Your Dog to a Mini Session:

  • Bring treats and a favorite toy for cooperation and focus

  • Pack waste bags (because, well… you know)

  • A leash or harness that looks nice in photos is a bonus

  • If you're not sure how your dog will do, bring a friend to help wrangle when they're not in the shot

The Bottom Line?

If your dog makes your life better—and we’re guessing they do—they’ll make your photos better too.

So YES—bring the pup. Let’s capture the chaos, the cuddles, and the love. 🐾
