What to Wear to Your Mini Session 📸✨
Mini sessions are the perfect way to capture beautiful, timeless photos in a short amount of time! Whether it’s a family session, couples shoot, or a special event, one of the most common questions I get is, "What should we wear?" The right outfit can make all the difference in how your photos turn out, and I’m here to make sure you look and feel your best during your session.
Here are a few tips on what to wear to your mini session:
Mini sessions are all about capturing natural moments, so you don’t want to overcomplicate your outfits. Choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable, but avoid overly busy patterns or logos. Solid colors or subtle prints work best, as they allow the focus to stay on you and your family, rather than your clothing.
Coordinating colors between family members is key, but avoid everyone wearing the exact same outfit. Choose a color palette (like soft neutrals, earthy tones, or pastels) and have each person wear complementary shades. This creates a cohesive look without feeling too “matchy.”
For example, a family could wear a mix of cream, denim, and light blue tones, or a couple might wear soft grays with pops of mustard yellow for a fresh, warm vibe.
Atlanta weather can vary throughout the year, so dress according to the season. In the spring and fall, layers work great! A cardigan or jacket can add texture and depth to your look, while also keeping you comfortable as the temperature shifts. If your mini session is outdoors, think about how your clothing will complement the natural surroundings.
If it’s summer, go for light, breathable fabrics, and if it’s winter, cozy up with scarves, boots, or knitted sweaters to add a little extra warmth to your look.
You’ll be moving around, laughing, and interacting with your family during the session, so make sure you’re comfortable. If you or your kids aren’t comfortable in your clothes, it will show in the photos! Avoid anything too tight or too loose, and make sure everyone can move freely—especially if you plan on doing any playful or candid shots.
Accessories can add personality and interest to your photos, but keep it simple. Think subtle jewelry, hats, scarves, or even a cute pair of shoes. Just be mindful that accessories shouldn’t overpower the outfit. Keep it balanced and let your personality shine through without overwhelming the look.
When choosing your outfits, think about the location and what’s in the background. If we’re shooting in a lush green park or along the Beltline, avoid green outfits that might blend into the scenery. For urban settings, bold colors or patterns can pop beautifully against brick walls or city streets. If we’re shooting near water or a field, light and airy clothing can give a dreamy, natural feel to the photos.
Last but not least, make sure everyone’s hair and nails are styled to your liking. For little ones, bring along a brush or hair ties in case you need a quick touch-up. For everyone, ensure shoes are clean and in good condition since they'll show in some of the photos.
For Families: A mix of denim jeans, cozy sweaters, and soft neutrals or pastels.
For Couples: A stylish dress for her and a button-up shirt with chinos or dark jeans for him.
For Kids: A playful dress or cute top paired with comfortable pants or shorts.
